Okay, at the risk of hyperbole, this was the best first night finals of any reality show competition I have ever seen. From start to finish, it was thoroughly entertaining. There wasn’t a clunker in the bunch and 8 out of 10 of the performances were in the A to A- range. That’s really remarkable and a testimony to the great talent they have on the show this season. This was a great episode!
In the past, I haven’t known enough to be able to evaluate the performances, but I finally have a sense of what makes for a strong routine. Here are my grades (given before the judges comments):
Jeanine & Phillip – A
Asuka & Vitolio – B
Karla & Jonathan – A-
Randi & Evan – A-
Paris & Tony – B+
Caitlin & Jason – A
Janette & Brandon – A
Ashley & Kupono – A-
Melissa & Ade – A
Kayla & Max – A
Standouts: Jason, Phillip, Brandon, Ade, Melissa
My vote goes to: Caitlin & Jason (Melissa & Ade are close behind)
Going home: Asuka & Vitolio
Before this show, I knew nothing about dance and cared very little about it, but now I have really grown to appreciate it. If you haven't seen it this season, you really should check it out.
