More Entertainment Headlines: Watchmen, David Archuleta, Lost, Tropic Thunder, Seinfeld, and More

* Twentieth Century Fox is suing Warner Brothers over the distribution rights of the film Watchmen, still slated for a March release. The film, which has been called the Citizen Kane of superhero movies by insiders, became embroiled in a complex legal mess that threatens the film’s release. One insider says that it may cost Warner $25 million or more to settle with Fox. Director Kevin Smith saw the latest cut of the film and called it “astounding” and said he was “blown away” by what he saw.

* Speaking of superhero movies, expect a bunch of DC Comics characters to hit the screen in the next three years, including a Green Arrow movie, a third Batman movie, and a darker, revisioned Superman movie in the coming three years. DC’s Justice League of America was originally slated for release next year, but has been pushed back a few years. Movies about the Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman are also in various stages of development. On the Marvel Comics side, expect The Avengers to hit theaters along with another Iron Man film in the near future.

* Michelle Rodriquez (Ana Lucia) is returning to Lost this season, at least for one episode.  Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello broke this story on the magazine's website.

* American Idol runner-up David Archuleta’s single, Crush, debuted at the No. 2 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart, beating the No. 3 mark hit by champ David Cook’s single, The Time of My Life, back in June. Archuleta’s song was the first song to debut that high in over a year and a half. Crush is the biggest debut ever for an American Idol contestant’s song that was never performed on the show. Both Davids have November releases of their albums, which should tell us much about the staying power of both of them.

* Tropic Thunder won the box office for the second week in a row, bringing in over $16 million and increasing its total take to more than $65 million. Sorority comedy, House Bunny, came in a close second, while Death Race opened weakly in third place.

* Jerry Seinfeld has signed on to be the spokesman for Microsoft Vista’s operating system. Uh, didn’t he have a Mac on his old sitcom?

* Barenaked Ladies lead singer, Ed Robinson, survived a small plane crash.  His Cessna crashed in a wooded area in Ontario on Sunday.  His wife and another couple were also aboard the plane when it went down.  Thankfully, no one was injured.
